Classic soup recipes

• Ginseng, dendrobium and ophiopogon pork soup: 10–15 g ginseng, 10–15 g dendrobium, 15 g ophiopogon, 300 g lean pork, 2–3 dried figs. Simmer 1.5 hours, add ginseng for the last 30–45 minutes.
• Ginseng and fig pork soup: 10 g ginseng, 4 figs, 300 g pork, 1 candied date.
• Ginseng and Chinese yam soup: 10 g ginseng, 30 g dried yam, 300 g pork or ribs, 3 red dates.
• Double-boiled ginseng chicken soup: 15 g ginseng, half a chicken, 4 red dates, 2 slices ginger; double-boil 2 hours.
• Ginseng and goji tea: 3 g ginseng and 10 goji berries steeped 10–15 minutes.

Precautions

• Warfarin users: American ginseng reduced warfarin's effect in a randomized trial.
• Diabetes medication: risk of low blood sugar.
• Pause during a cold or fever; limit if you have a sensitive stomach.
